Upcoming Events: April

Hi bloggyverse!

Here is the scoop on what is going on with me and art and stuff for April.

On April 11 during Norman, Oklahoma's 2nd Friday Circuit of Art I will have art at the Ringa Singa event Art Auction benefitting Rose Rock School. Rose Rock is a play-based, Waldorf-style school focusing on kindergarten/early years and fostering cognitive development and they use a sliding scale so families of all income levels can afford to send their kids there. I am really happy to support what they are doing -the teachers that held my interest in math, science, history, and technology in later years were the ones who kept it fun and thought out-of-the-box.

On April 12th I will be participating in Arts Trek in Shawnee at the Mabee Gerrer Art Museum, as part of Broadway Arts Gallery's booth. We will have art for sale and also be demonstrating our work. You can find us in the indoor section of booths at the Trek.

 Stay tuned for more updates!

New Oil Painting: "Silver"

In my studio I have been working on faces more. I love faces but with oils I tend to start them out differently than other artists and I am trying to work more traditionally darker to lighter in layers.
The title is based on women and people I have known in my life who had given names or changed their name to share it with an element or a precious metal. The most common of these was Silver and it was identified as a given name each time I met a "Silver." Names are indeed interesting; I wanted to name my imagined portrait here but still inform my goal in the study.

Painting with acrylics you work with the values differently, so it's almost like brushing your teeth with your off hand to switch from oils to acrylics often... but I have learned I favor acrylics for faster paintings and textured layers.

This piece has a textured layer of acrylic underneath the oil layers of the face to add mood to the values I tried to push in it. below is a detailed shot from middle of paint…

New Painting: Metamorphosis (nsfw)

"Metamorphosis" is another figurative piece completed recently, with a woman in a bubble and cicada-esque wings forming from her back. I have been following NASA on Instagram and many of their photos have inspired me to incorporate more stars and cosmos -type imagery into my darker backgrounds... we really need to get out and watch a meteor shower soon.

She is not the first being in a water drop or bubble I have painted but she is the most human... and I have enjoyed working the the fantasy elements. Most of the photos I have taken have all turned out a little light and I am still working to get a perfect color match to the original- this is truly one to see in person.

**Also a reminder I am having a special sale through the end of March on select paintings, you can view them here.

New Painting: High Maintenance (nsfw)

Imagine a world (really this already exists) where one could have anything they desired, fit to their specifications, custom-made for them...  anything. Fresh off the assembly line. What happens when your desires and aesthetics change? What do you do with the things that have become obsolete in your life? Will these things ever be "loved" again?
High Maintenance is a glimpse at being thrown away, tossed aside.
personal story: I had the same un-smart cell phone for 7 years before upgrading. The one that looked like a Blackberry but wasn't, so everyone just assumed I had a Blackberry until they looked a little closer. I kept getting those letters about how it was just going to quit working one day but it never did... it was fine until the day I changed phones. It did fall into all its pieces if dropped, however. We also still have 2 VCRs... yeah I know.
If you are interested in some of the progress pics of High Maintenance, they are in a blog post here.

March Art Sale

For the month of March I am having a sale.

I don't really do sales very often. There are reasons for this- mostly because I have tried in the past and it has been difficult for me to bother with them (I dislike sending specific-advertisements to friends and family but it's part of what I have to do to keep everyone updated!) and, consumers who are interested in buying something will generally wait for something to possibly "go on sale" when I may never put some of my paintings on sale, so I don't want to start the pattern...
Also... It is not always fair to my collectors who have paid full prices on art, so when I do a sale I try to approach anyone who has expressed interest in the pieces earlier, or has collected my work in the past, before making a big ordeal of everything.  Then again, a bunch of people saying "i wish i could afford this" on my social media may not be actually wanting to ever own my art, they may just be saying "i wish i wasn…

Painting in Progress: (untitled science fiction nude)

*the photos/art in this post may be considered NSFW for some - i need to start disclaiming that on my nude art... meh...

Below are progress shots of a large figurative painting in my studio that has been taking up a great deal of my time the last few days.  One of my social media/online art group connections photographs lovely ladies and has granted permission for a figurative reference for this piece and I am grateful for this perfect pose for what I am trying to execute. The face and other elements are rendered more stylistically.
If I can finish her in time I may submit to a juried show or other exhibition opportunity in my area.

I can't wait to share the completed piece with you...  :)

Images and Goodies from Recent Art Shows!

Hey friends and lookers and lurkers!

I hope everyone who is local enjoyed our recent snow day and everyone in my immediate city made it to vote today.

I have spent a lot of time painting on a new larger oil painting and finishing up some smaller pieces, and over the weekend I launched a limited time *sale* on unframed art works over on my
Facebook Page. I don't do special or discount sales very often (I like to keep my prices as low as materials/overhead will allow and i don't really like making people just wait until another sale to get something at the best i can offer) but we will be moving within the year and some of my collectors do like to frame pieces on their own, so I am giving a special savings for these unframed pieces.

And,  since this is a special thing, I have already thrown in some non-canvas things like wood panel paintings... I can split up payments before shipping your artwork if this is something that you need to help purchase a piece (just email or contact …
